DAY 2: NEW ORLEANS, THE BIG EASY
This morning, we rose nice and early at 5:15 AM!! We headed straight for Auburn University and had a nice drive through tour of their very large campus before stepping off at the famous Samford Hall for a quick picture. Did you notice what time it said on the clock!?
We had our first travel breakfast this morning of poptarts and gogurt. Somehow, plates didn't make it on one of the vans so travel brochures were used instead!!
We drove through the rest of Alabama and stopped at the Mississippi Welcome Center. It poured rain on our drive through Mississippi, but the sun came out just in time for us to arrive in New Orleans!!
In NOLA, we were steps from the Mississippi River where we were serenaded by some of the locals as we made our way to Cafe Du Monde! The beignets were SO yummy. We also walked down Bourbon Street taking in the sights and visited St. Louis Cathedral. Then we had an hour and a half to split off into groups of six to explore the city!!
We met back at the bus at 4:45 PM to head to our final destination of the day. On the drive there, we crossed over Lake Pontchartrain. The bridge across was 23 miles long!! We stayed at Fontainebleau State Park where we were indoors tonight...and yes, everyone was excited about that. Even better, we got bunk beds!!
